3P – Positive Pregnancy Peers was a project run by Posithiva Gruppen during 2022–2024 with funding from Allmänna arvsfonden. The purpose of the project was to empower pregnant people living with HIV in Sweden through peer support. The peer supporters trained during the project continue to provide support to people living with HIV who are pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or have recently given birth.
Get support from a peer supporter!
Everyone living with HIV who is pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or has recently given birth is welcome to seek support from 3P. The peer supporters can offer in-person and online support sessions, as well as come along to doctor’s appointments. The goal is to provide everyone who seeks support through 3P with the means to feel more secure and empowered, as well as the tools to make informed decisions regarding pregnancy and childbirth.
Many pregnant people living with HIV in Sweden were born in other countries. The project group therefore worked actively to include people born outside Sweden in 3P.

The peer supporters
In the autumn of 2022, the first group of peer supporters completed the basic training led by experienced trainers from 4M Network, which has trained peer supporters living with HIV in the UK since 2016. In the spring of 2024, a second group of peer supporters was trained, this time based on training material developed as a part of the project.
Today, the peer supporters that were trained as part of the project help others living with HIV to feel secure and empowered before, during, and after a pregnancy. All peer supporters are living with HIV and have gone through the journey of pregnancy and birth themselves. Beyond that, they are of different ages, come from several different countries, and speak several different languages.
About peer support
The fundamental principle of peer support is that lived experience is invaluable. Today, peer support from trained peer supporters is a tried and tested method with good results in several countries. The method has been shown to have several health benefits for pregnant people living with HIV.
